This issue is less Legion and more Archie. Veronica Lana wants to make Archie Superboy jealous so she makes Reggie Star Boy pretend he likes her. No Betty in his issue (unless Zynthia counts).
Lana is a crazy cat. There’s a fine line between love and obsession and I think this ‘classic’ version of Lana blasted across that line on her crazy rocket.
Do you know how Lana “persuaded” Star Boy to help her make Superboy jealous? She blackmailed him! Lana threatened to expose his identity if he did not pretend to be her boyfriend. Considering her ability for jerk-like behavior I’m not surprised she was made a reserve Legionnaire.
Speaking of Star Boy and secret identities: there has to be a thousand different ways for Star Boy to get Superboy’s attention that don’t jeopardize Superboy’s secret identity. Throwing gigantic horse shoes at him isn’t one of those.
Superboy decided to be a bit of a jerk in this issue too. He knew about Lana’s little plan and decided to play along and even upped the ante by pretending a Xanthunian girl fell for him.
