Why are Smallville’s two newest super-powered residents trying to uncover Superboy’s secret identity?
I’m not sure which is worse, Ultra-Boy destroying a Superboy statue during the ‘Superboy Fair’ or the fact that it never occurred.
One of these days someone is going to have to explain to me the logistics of wearing two sets of clothes at the same time.
The issue starts with ‘Ben’ and ‘Gary’ Crane coming to Smallville. Their mission is to uncover the secret identity of Superboy. At first they think Pete Ross might be Superboy so they test him for super-powers. He doesn’t pan out so Ben and Gary keep looking. As you can see from the picture above the first person to figure out that these two guys are up to no good is Krypto. Considering how many threats the citizens of Smallville face you’d think they’d be more on the ball. ‘Gary’ then meets Clark and uses his Penetra-Vision to see that Clark is wearing his ‘Superboy’ costume under his civilian clothes. After Superboy and Gary team up to save Pete’s life Gary and Ben reveal their true identities.
Jo “Gary” Nah is a super-powered teenager from the future. His entrance exam to join the Legion was to discover Superboy’s secret identity. Wait, what? Of all the tests the Legion could come up with to try out their prospective members they had to pick this? What if someone screwed up and Superboy’s secret identity was revealed? What if they messed up the time line? What if Superboy had gotten a bit out of hand protecting his secret identity? I’d be pissed if two strangers burned my dog’s feet, god knows what I would have done to them. It just seems like a goofy way to use time travel.
And in one last act of jerk-like behavior before they leave Jo invades Pete’s privacy and looks at the contents of his safety deposit box.
But hey, honorary member of the Legion, right?
