Could Supergirl’s sudden loss of powers have been caused by a super-villain working in the shadows?
This issue starts with Linda moping over her lost powers. We then learn that it was no accident Linda is powerless now, a Kandorian scientist named Lesla-Lar used a Kryptonite-tinged ray to strip Linda of her powers. Her sinister plan is to switch places with Linda and then mysteriously regain her powers. Did I forget to mention that Lesla-Lar both a) looks exactly like Linda/Kara AND b) she figured out a way to permanently regain her full size? I probably didn’t mention that stuff because a) it’s too sprocking coincidental AND b) it makes no sense.
Her powers gone Linda now wants to be adopted. Her dreams come true when the Danvers family (Fred and um…Mrs.) decides to adopt her. Linda and Streaky go to live with them and seem to be genuinely happy until Superman pays her a visit to remind her that he’s still trying to return her powers but has not yet succeeded. Later that evening Lesla swaps places with Linda. Lesla uses a ‘brain-wash helmet’ to make Linda believe that she is really Lesla. Tricky, right?
On Earth Lesla puts into action the next part of her sinister plan. She springs Lex Luthor from jail and tells him that she wants to team up to commit some super-crimes. She will help him escape from jail every night and then return him before the next day’s cell check. Lesla has ulterior motives for helping Lex too, which we will learn about in later issues. When Linda’s memories start returning Lesla swaps places with her.
