Lesla-Lar, the evil Kandorian scientist and Supergirl look-alike, sets her devious plan in motion.
This issue begins with Linda getting used to her new non-super-powered life. She talks to Clark during a field trip to the Daily Planet where he tells her that he hasn’t been successful in returning her powers but to buck up, that night he’s going to try one last time. There must a limit for the number of failed attempts for any given experiment because I don’t see any other reason for Superman to stop trying to help Linda. Later that night Lesla-Lar uses her teleport ray to switch places with Linda and goes to visit Lex Luthor. Lesla informs Luthor of her plan to kill Superman: they’ll create a Kryptonite ray to shoot Superman out of the sky. Lesla will provide the Kryptonite and Lex will design the machine so that Lex will get blamed for Superman’s death Lex will get the credit for Superman’s death.
Now it’s time for Lesla to dope Superman into thinking that ‘Supergirl’ has regained her powers. She sets up a fake experiment that miraculously returns her powers and then she shows Superman that she’s gotten pretty good at the ‘super-hero business’. Superman is impressed.
Superman decides that since Supergirl has regained her powers AND she’s doing so well using them that they should once again plan on revealing her existence to the world. This is exactly what Lesla planned on, she wants Superman to reveal the existence of Supergirl right before Lex kills him. She then will be able to rule the world as the last remaining super-person (Lesla must not know about every other super-hero on Earth).
