Aw crap, Super-Horse again!
So what was the super-important mission that only Comet could accomplish? The mission is to go to the planet Zerox (not to be mistaken with the planet Xerox which is inhabited by copies of Earthlings) and answer a distress call from Prince Endor. Superman owes Prince Endor (not to be mistaken with the planet Endor and its famous fifth moon) a favor but he himself, nor Supergirl, cannot go because Zerox revolves around a red sun and is a planet of magicians (Kryptonians are susceptible to magic). Kara decides to tag along even though she will be powerless (how much fun would the issue be if Comet had no one to save?)
After arriving on Zerox Comet and Supergirl find that the immediate threat to the Prince is that his flying horse won’t fly (thereby making him just a horse). A flying horse is need for a very important state event so Comet substitutes for the grounded pony. We later learn that the Prince’s nephew, evil Lord Nomed, is trying to sabotage his uncle’s reign as leader.
The prince rewards Comet by using a magic spell to temporarily turn him into a human. Comet, for some reason or another, doesn’t tell Supergirl of his transformation. Comet then saves Supergirl’s life when Lord Nomed tries to poison her. It’s then obvious who’s behind the plot against the Prince. Before leaving for Earth the Prince warns Comet (who has reverted to horse shape) that every time a comet passes through the Solar system he will be transformed back into human shape until the comet exits the Solar system.
Supergirl and Comet return to Earth and shortly thereafter a comet passes through the Solar system (surprise). Comet joins a rodeo and is almost found out by Supergirl. They share a ‘moment’ (remember we are talking about a horse/minotaur here) and Supergirl leaves, still searching for her horse.
Comet starts transforming back into a horse and is almost captured, while in minotaur shape, by horse rustlers. Supergirl appears, after he is fully horse again, and everything ends up OK. And that’s the end of another super-duper Comet the Super-Horse-centric issue of Supergirl!
